News of Lama Teunsang’s health on March 4, 2023
Dear Friend of Montchardon,
In the letter that was sent to you yesterday afternoon, we informed you of Lama Teunsang’s current health problems. Today, his condition seems to be improving very slowly, but it is too early to draw any conclusions. We will keep you informed.
As explained yesterday, His Holiness the Karmapa Thaye Dorje advised us to recite the Prajnaparamita sutra or Sherab Nyingpo in Tibetan, called in English The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, which is recited in Montchardon every evening after Mahakala.
Last night at 8pm, in the presence of Lama Sangpo, Lama Tsultrim led the recitation of this text, which according to Mahayana tradition allows one to repel adverse circumstances and all forms of obstacles. The practice consists of reciting the Heart Sutra three times in a row, before accumulating recitations of the Prajnaparamita mantra:
« Teyata Om Gate Gate Paragate Para Samgate Bodhi Soha »
Then the text that follows the sutra is recited three times. This second text, called in Tibetan dokpa, is intended to « counteract or expel harmful influences », and during the recitation, the hands are clapped several times to signify this.
Lama Tsultrim repeated this entire sequence three times.
All Nyung Ne participants and Montchardon residents joined in this practice and there were 183 people participating via the YouTube stream on KML Gompa TV!
Thank you all for your practice!
Lama Sangpo was very pleased and offered to do this practice again tonight and tomorrow night, March 4 and 5 at 8pm, for the benefit of Lama Teunsang, as advised by the Karmapa.
We have rearranged the downloadable text of the Heart Sutra, to make it easier to follow. You can download the text in pdf by clicking on the button above (text in French).
It goes without saying that both the recitation of the sutra and the mantra « Gate » can be done at other times of the day, at your convenience, as a personal practice.
We will continue to keep you informed. Therefore, there is no need to overload the reception desk by calling or texting with questions. Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely in Dharma,
The Montchardon team
