News of Lama Teunsang’s health on March 12, 2023
Dear Friend of Montchardon,
On Tuesday 7 March, Lama Teunsang was hospitalized again. Indeed, after having improved slightly during the weekend of 4-5 March, his condition deteriorated on Monday 6.
Despite the morphine he was taking, he was experiencing severe pain in his right lung. For two years he has had a pleural effusion (fluid accumulated in the pleura) in this area of the lung. Until now, this was not a problem, but in recent weeks the water accumulation suddenly increased in volume, compressing the lung tissue, and leading to a superinfection. The infection is causing painful coughing spells that are very tiring for Lama Teunsang. Antibiotic treatment was started, and Lama was admitted to hospital to be monitored, to stop the infection and to puncture the fluid to relieve the pressure.
The pleural fluid puncture was done on Wednesday, quickly relieving Lama of the pain he was experiencing, which allowed doctors to lower the morphine he was taking. The punctured fluid will be analysed, which may give further indications.
During the week, biological tests showed that the superinfection is gradually disappearing, and the situation is slowly improving every day. The covid was not virulent – fortunately! – and it is resolving. The cough is also decreasing. A physiotherapist comes regularly to help him clear the congestion from his lungs and to help him move again.
Lama Teunsang is now extremely tired, sleeping all day, struggling to stand and unable to move. « Nothing surprising » says the doctor, the covid complicated by a superinfection brings a lot of fatigue, especially for a person of his age with his existing pathologies. For now, he remains in the hospital and should be discharged sometime next week.
Good day to all, thank you for your thoughts and support.
Sincerely in the Dharma,
The Montchardon team
